What causes panic disorder?

Panic disorder leads to life-altering mental and physical issues that can make your entire world feel like it’s crashing down on you. During panic attacks, you may experience:

-Numbness or tingling in your extremities
-Intense, rapid heart pounding
-Dizziness or fainting spells
-Chest pain or tightness 
-Intense fear or worry 
-Difficulty breathing
-Extreme sweating

 

You might also start avoiding places or situations where you’ve experienced panic attacks in the past, even if they’re not really harmful or dangerous. 

How do I know if I have panic disorder?

If any of the panic disorder symptoms sound familiar, you understand just how serious and debilitating panic attacks are. Your case of panic disorder may be linked to:

-Abnormal changes in your brain function
-Family history of panic disorder
-History of trauma or abuse
-Major life stress

 

Sometimes, your personal habits are the cause of your panic attacks. For instance, if you smoke cigarettes or consume too much caffeine, your risk of developing panic disorder increases. While anyone can develop panic disorder at any age, this chronic mental health condition typically begins in your late teens or early adulthood.
